How can I determine if a movie poster is in the public domain?

Posted under movie poster

I cannot figure out who has more rights; the artist, the studio, the actors with faces on the poster (photo), Artististic actor representations, and do the names of the actors have any attached rights.

You can try using it and see if you get sued. Actually, chances are, the studio owns the rights to the artwork as well. But if you use the poster, you would need the permission of the copyright owner (and this part I’m not really sure about) as well as the people whose faces appear on the poster. Music and movies are considered "for hire," therefore the studio owns the rights to what you create. As far as public domain, copyrights have just been extended (thank you Walt Disney) to life of the creator plus 75 years. If the poster is realatively new, then chances are its still not in the public domain yet.

How would you translate "movie trailer" into Spanish?

Posted under movie trailer

How does the Spanish language express the idea of what we call a movie trailer in English?

The word sinopsis can be used, and also the word trailer itself (though I don’t know if it is the translation or an english word it is also used in spanish)

Sinopsis is more like review, rather than trailer. But it can still be used for that.

I use sinopsis when i want to say trailer. (I am from argentina)

How to destroy the film in a camera both disposable and just from a non-disposable camera?

Posted under film

As above.

I was just pondering the question and could not find anything on this on the internet, maybe I’m not articulating it the way google would be able to understand. I’m always told if the disposable film on the canister is exposed to the light it will be damaged, but then how do you even get the film out?

Thanks,

Me.

On a 35mm film canister, the film is normally removed by breaking open the canister using a special tool which removes the end caps. It can also be removed using a leader retriever: a thin flexible hooking tool which goes into the film slot and is used to fish out the end of the film.

Some disposable cameras contain a regular 35mm canister, most don’t. Either way the camera has to be cracked open to remove the film if you intend to destroy it.but it’s more fun just to set light to the plastic camera body.

Exposing the film to light completely destroys any latent images and once this has been done the information is irretrievably lost.

How long does it take for a new movie to go dvd?

Posted under new movie

I wanted to see the new movie "The September Issue", but its not being shown any where near where I live, so I want to wait until it comes out on dvd. I want to know about how many months

a couple months, each one is different.

depends how well the movies do.
if the movie didn’t do too good in theaters, it will come out on dvd sooner.
if the movie did great in theaters, it might stay in the theater for a while longer and take longer to come out on dvd.
